Early history. Jowett was founded in by brothers Benjamin (–) and William (–) Jowett with Arthur V. Lamb. They started in the cycle business and went on to make V-twin engines for driving machinery.

Some early engines found their way locally into other makes of cars as arters: Idle, Bradford, West Riding of. The Jowett Javelin was an executive car which was produced from to by Jowett Cars Ltd of Idle, near Bradford in England. The model went through five variants coded PA to PE, each having a standard and "de luxe" option.

The car was designed by Gerald Palmer during World War II and was intended to be a major leap forward from the relatively staid designs of pre-war style: 4-door fastback saloon.

Designed to launch the small Bradford firm of Jowett into successful mass production, the good-looking four door family saloon was amongst the most innovative cars then available. Discerning motoring enthusiasts soon began a love affair with the Javelin and its sporting sister, the Jupiter, that lasts to this day, even though their achievements /5(2).
